Ronald Banta
Interim Chief of Police

Chief Banta is a 35+ year law enforcement professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management, and possesses an Advanced, Management and Executive Development certificate with the California Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training including being a graduate of the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute. He is considered an expert in counter terrorism and critical infrastructure protection and is a subject matter expert in Canine Operations as well as being FEMA trained and certified as an All-Hazards Incident Command System operator.

Banta has been assigned to Administrative, Operations, Training Academy and Special Operations positions and has been assigned as a Field Training Officer/Supervisor, counter sniper, public safety diver, canine handler of several patrol, SWAT and explosive detection canines, while being cross designated as a Federal Officer with the Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations as a Customs Officer.

He has served as an Officer, Captain and Commander at Broadmoor and has been assigned among other things as the Emergency Management coordinator and Risk Management Officer.

John Duncan

Commander Duncan is a 45 year law enforcement professional. He served honorably in the United States Air Force Security Forces before he worked his way through the ranks with the Broadmoor Police from Reserve Officer to Commander. While still with Broadmoor, he also was the Chief of Police with the City of Ione and the Gonzales Police Departments.

Commander Duncan has been assigned to every operational and administrative position that an agency can have. Over his career, he has trained and mentored hundreds of current and former law enforcement officers. He is now the Broadmoor Police Department’s Commander / Assistant Chief of Police and Risk Management Officer and holds a California POST Executive certificate.

Pete Nelson

Sgt. Pete Nelson has served in law enforcement for almost 30 years. He began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a Police Officer for the Daly City Police Department. In 2017, he retired from the Daly City Police Department after 28 years of dedicated service to the community.

In December of 2019, he returned to law enforcement as a police officer for the Broadmoor Police Department where he was promoted to Sgt. in October of 2020.

He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Skyline College in San Bruno, California.

Rich Daniele

Rich Daniele has served in law enforcement for over 30 years. He began his law enforcement career in 1981 as a Police Officer for the San Francisco Police Department. In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and performed patrol duties until 1999 at which time he was appointed to the rank of Inspector/Sergeant.

He served in that capacity until his retirement in 2013. In 2015, he was sworn in as a police officer for the Broadmoor Police Department.

He holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science.

Lisa Hernandez
Administrative Assistant / Records Clerk

Lisa Hernandez started at the Broadmoor Police Department in early 2018. After graduating from Cal State Hayward with a BA in Psychology, she went to work at SFO as A Customer Service Supervisor for Southwest Airlines. After a decade with the SWA she worked as a teacher to young children at a Preschool. She always had an interest in the law enforcement field and was happy to start at Broadmoor as an Office/Records Clerk. Now as the Administrative Assistant/Records Clerk her knowledge and understanding of law enforcement and the judicial system continues to expand.
